FIRST® Tech Challenge Championship Results 2018

The third level of FIRST® programs is called the FIRST Tech Challenge(FTC). It is a program for students from grades 7 to 12. It teaches students team work, design, building, and programming in one intense collaboration package.  250+ students gathered for this exciting FTC event at Telus World of Science in Edmonton.

Teams Cyber Eagles from Strathcona Christian Academy, Sherwood Park, Helios from  École Maurice-Lavallée, Edmonton and OLS from Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy, Canmore were the top contenders for that weekend!  Congratulations to this alliance!

 

 

Cyber Eagles were also honored with the FTC Alberta Winning Alliance Captain Award and was the Helios was the Inspire Award winner of the weekend! Special note to the following award winners as well:

Team Jasmine on Breakfast Television Calgary

Be sure to tune in tomorrow morning to Breakfast Television Calgary to see one of Alberta’s most admirable robotics teams!  Seven team members from FIRST® Tech Challenge Team Jasmine all of whom were refugees from Syria and Lebanon will be LIVE at 8:30AM EST.

The Judges Award was given to this group of ambitious Calgary teens at the most recent FTC Championship in Edmonton, Alberta, and the team placed 12th out of 33 overall!

Congratulations to Team Jasmine!

EDMONTON EXPO at NAIT

FIRST® LEGO® League and FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. brought their A-game to NAIT, Edmonton, Alberta this past Saturday, January 20, 2018.

2018 FIRST LEGO League Champions –  JunioTech Nanosharks

Junior teams had a blast in this non-competitive learning based  AQUA ADVENTURESM Challenge.  They showed off a variety of water journey’s to their chosen water use such as skating rinks, swimming pools and  plumbing. Team Models were built, programmed and ready to be presented to a Reviewer with their Show-me Board!

FIRST® LEGO® League teams were heard chanting through the halls of NAIT on route to their scheduled HYDRODYNAMICSSM themed competition.  Their robots needed to complete a series of water related missions to score points. First Place was awarded to JunioTech Nanosharks from Calgary, Alberta and Second Place was awarded to Panthéres from École  Joseph-Moreau of Edmonton, Alberta.

Calgary FLL Cancelled?

Seems that the Alberta Youth Robotics Society cancelled the Calgary FLL competition run by your FIRST Robotics Society.
ccc-image004 You probably planned on attending. Well, so did we… and we already booked a GREAT venue, the sound system, volunteers and a whole bunch of FLL tables.

So we figured if we have all this ready, why not compete?
