Designed for students ages 9-14

FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) gives students ages 4-14 and their adult Mentors the opportunity to work and create together to solve a common problem. There are 3 FIRST® LEGO® League divisions: Discover, Explore and Challenge.  FIRST Alberta is the host for the Explore and Challenge competitions.

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge for ages 9-14*: Challenged to research a real-world problem, then create an original solution for that problem, plus design and build a robot using a LEGO® Spike Prime kit within a common set of rules to accomplish “missions” on a playing field, brings out the best in students. The theme changes each season, requiring teams to be extraordinarily creative.

*A student must be at most 14 years old to register for FIRST LEGO League Challenge at the start of the season. The season begins when FIRST HQ officially releases it in August. For example, the upcoming FIRST LEGO League season, BIOGLOW, will start on August 4, 2026. If a student is 14 years old on that date, they are able to compete during the season.

FIRST Alberta brings your student the opportunity to join an FLL Challenge Robotics Team that will design and build a LEGO® Mindstorms® EV3 or Spike Prime Robot to compete in a FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge Competition.
