Pre-Event volunteers: Various roles could include volunteer recruitment and ensuring FIRST C&R and YPP complete, logistics planning, event materials preparations (printing, trophies, etc), table and mat/challenges set up.
Queuers: Stage and position teams in preparation for the start of matches. Play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of the match play and maintaining the pace of the event. This role is normally performed by an adult or FTC/FRC team members
Runners: Move teams, other volunteers, and guests to locations they should be. Assist FIRST leads in moving equipment, paper, or messages between the various locations of the meet.

Practice Table Attendant: Provides direction, assistance, information, and support to teams at practice tables in the Pit. Manages the practice table schedule and oversight of field model pieces. Serves as a role model for team members. Assist with practice table sign-up answer questions from teams and guests maintain practice table area.

Reception: This person is responsible for checking teams in at the start of the event, ensuring they have submitted a complete team roster, and providing the teams with their event day registration materials.

Game Announcer: The Game Announcer’s role is vital to a successful event. They are the primary individual responsible for setting the tone of the competition. Creating and sustaining an exciting and fun atmosphere throughout the event. As the most visible presence at the event, they embody the spirit of FIRST. Their role includes introducing teams, providing play-by-play commentary, reporting the scores.
Multimedia / Streaming: People in charge of streaming the event online. Need to be familiar with the required technology. Tasks include positioning the cameras and equipment, and changing camera angle and messages shown on the live stream.
Photographer: This person captures the Competition on film and/or video for archival and future publicity.
Scorekeeper -Comfortable with computers and can enter data from score sheets into either Excel or a scoring program. -Helps facilitate the final ranking for awards, the announcement of the scores by the Emcee, and display of the scores in the Pit area.
Field Reset: Reset the playing field after each team match – requires knowledge of current season field set up.

Volunteer Room Attendant: Monitor and maintain the area assigned to volunteers to relax, store belongings, mingle, and eat. Assist with volunteer check-in.
Minimal Training prior to event
Judges: Interview each team and judge their presentations according to the judging criteria and rubrics. Contributes to the awards deliberations. – must attend pre-event judge training.

Pit Administrator: Provides and distributes critical information to teams as needed. The pit is the ‘information hub’ for numerous inquiries and this individual should be trained to answer all questions by teams and guests about the day—from schedule to venue information. Sets up practice mats and oversees their use such that teams have equal time for practice. Manages the pit area for the teams. May also supervise additional activities during final judge deliberations. This role requires training on data protection.

Key Roles – Training required prior to event [adults]:
Judge Advisor: The Judge Advisor coordinates the judging process. This could include the following tasks: attending pre-event coach’s meeting, pre-event judge training, facilitating group deliberation sessions, ensuring the award decisions are made that the award script is written, answering questions about training materials, schedules, and other general questions throughout the event.
MUST be 3 years removed from a team. MUST be 21 years of age or older.
Head Referee: Head Referees play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of the match play and maintaining the pace of the event. Head referee may be required to participate in deliberations regarding contested Referee calls by teams. Head Referee attends a pre-event coach’s meeting and ensures the pre-event training of referees on the season’s challenges.
MUST be 3 years removed from a team. MUST be 21 years of age or older.
Referee: The Referees work under the direction of the Head Referee. Referees have two main role distinctions; observing matches to call penalties and determine game score; and scoring Core Values. Referees report to the Head Referee. Play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of the match play and maintaining the pace of the event.
