Teams in Alberta have the chance to lower their registration cost by up to $150 by providing volunteers during the season. The maximum discount is per team, but hours will be tracked by organization. The credit will be applied in the following year that the volunteer time is performed. Rookie teams will get the maximum discount on their first year as an incentive to join, but will be required to complete their volunteer hours during their rookie year to get the discount on their second year.
All volunteers will be required to sign up through your FIRST Inspires Dashboard and list their team affiliation. This allows us to avoid conflicts of interest AND track volunteer time against each team/organization. To know more about how to register as a volunteer, please see our volunteer page.
To get the maximum credit, a team must complete a total of 16 volunteer hours. Filling key roles will earn a multiplier for those hours. (See the Volunteer Roles page to learn about the roles and their categories.)
- Non-key, no training roles: x1
- Non-key, training required roles: x1.5
- Key roles: x2
A team providing a volunteer to do queuing for 6 hours will earn 6 volunteer hours. A team that is providing a robot inspector (2 hours times 1.5) in the morning and a referee (5 hours times 2) will earn 13 volunteer hours. Teams are not required to provide a volunteer for the full day. Some roles can do split shit and others are only needed at specific times of the day.
