FIRST Robotics Competition

For students in grade 9-12

FIRST Robotics Competition dubbed, “The varsity sport for the mind,” is the highest level of robotics competition offered by FIRST and aimed at high-school students who design and build super impressive and functional robots. These imposing 5 foot tall, 140-pound robots compete in high intensity robo-sports.

FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sport with the rigours of science and technology. The rules are strict, resources are limited, and time is controlled. Teams of 25 plus students are challenged to raise funds, brand their product, maximize teamwork, and build and program a unique marvel robot to perform prescribed assignments against fearsome competitors.

“The varsity sport for the mind,” FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement of sport with the rigours of science and technology.

Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.

FIRST Robotics Competition (Alberta)

The FIRST Robotics Competition is the premiere youth international robotics competition. It is a series of around 200 competitions around the world for high school-aged students.

In Alberta we have had the pleasure of hosting the Western Canadian Regional, now branded as the Canadian Rockies Regional, a 30-40 team, 500 participant event that has drawn teams from as far afield as Mexico, Turkey, China, and Australia – and across Canada and the United States.

In 2020 Alberta had 20 FRC teams, with another 4 Saskatchewan entries and 1 Manitoba team making up the Western Canadian contingent.

In future years, we want this event to grow even larger and act as a spectacle to show off the STEM skills of our Alberta students on the world stage.
